Kontron Electronics acquires the business activities of UST

Effective December 1, 2021, Kontron Electronics GmbH will have acquired the business activities of EMS supplier Ultraschalltechnik Halle GmbH (UST, Ultrasound Technology). Kontron Electronics will gain a new production site in Halle (Saale), Germany through the acquisition.

With the acquisition of the new production site, the activities of UST GmbH will be integrated into Kontron Electronics GmbH. The company is also gaining around 40 new UST staff who will retain all of their positions and the production plant in Halle (Saale) will remain active, a press release said. The current owner of UST, Ms. Petra Wicher, will act in an advisory capacity during the transition phase. The companies did not disclose the value of the transaction. “In line with our ODM/EMS strategy, we have selected a site with strong engineering skills and existing production facilities,” says Holger Wußmann, CEO of Kontron Electronics GmbH, in the press release. “Choosing Halle means that we are opening up another region in Germany, for market culture as well as for personnel recruitment. We are convinced that the individual strengths of the employees of UST will satisfactorily complement the skills of our colleagues in Frickenhausen and of Schorndorf. The Halle site will benefit from synergy effects, our customers will have access to a large portfolio of services and the jobs of the employees will be secured”, continues the CEO. With this acquisition, Kontron Electronics expands its activities in the EMS segment and integrates a new medium-sized company into its business structure.UST’s service portfolio spans the entire spectrum of an EMS service provider, from engineering to design to end-to-end manufacturing of electronic assemblies, devices and systems Once the transaction is finalized, Kontron Electronics will have sites in Frickenhausen near Nü rtingen, Schorndorf and Halle (Saale), as well as two production sites in Hungary.
