APTDC is poised to generate record revenue this fiscal year

Tirupati: After experiencing a huge drop in revenue during the Covid pandemic, the tourism sector is racing to reach pre-Covid levels. After significantly improving its revenues in 2021-22 compared to 2020-21, the AP Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) is poised to generate record revenues in this fiscal year.

The Tirupati division is a major source of income for APTDC through its transport unit through which it has organized package tours to Tirumala from various destinations. Horsley Hills is another major source of income for the company. Other hotel units at various locations in the former Chittoor district also contributed their power and kept the APTDC financially healthy.

However, the Company was hit hard by the pandemic as the transport wing came to a halt during the lockdown and afterwards as well. But the situation has gradually changed bringing hope to APTDC. Horsley Hills, which is considered the company’s moneymaker, earned Rs 3.22 crore in 2021-22 compared to Rs 2.36 crore in 2020-21. Other tourism units earned Rs 6.26 crore in 2020-21 while it rose to Rs 11.58 crore in 2021-22.

However, the bulk of APTDC’s revenue comes from the transport wing which could earn Rs 7.22 crore in 2020-21 but has risen sharply to Rs 36.19 crore in 2021-22 as Pilgrim tourists lined up in Tirumala and elsewhere. In the first five months of the current financial year itself, the transport wing achieved revenue of Rs 20 crore. This includes the joint partnership mode under which it operates tour packages for Tirumala and other places of tourist significance.

Tirupati division officials planned several pilgrim tours on various occasions which attracted pilgrims. Apart from operating these new package tours, they also have plans to expand Talakona significantly, which is currently being actively considered by the company.

APTDC Division Manager, M Giridhar Reddy, told The Hans India that they are trying to increase their revenue by improving the quality of service, which is delivering results. They will also focus on reducing costs in order to increase profits.
